Celebrating Success
With the first birthday of Chippy Lippys, the other networking group I run fast approaching, I've been busy thinking about how best to celebrate with the dynamic women members.
But I've had another success lately that I've been more relucant to celebrate publicly (though I have told friends and family). After a conversation with one of my LTL members, I've decided to go public.
Back in September I submitted an extensive application to apply for international accreditation for my coaching (which is what I do when I'm not organising networking events). I needed evidence of 60 hours of training, 100 hours experience of coaching clients and 2 references from already accredited coaches. Once my application was assessed, I had to undergo a live examination, where I coached someone over the phone who then assessed me. I heard last week that I'd been successful and am now an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation.
I saw this qualification as a way of measuring myself and my coaching skills with other coaches across the world. As coaching is a relatively new profession and not yet regulated, it's also a way of committing to my continuing professional development.
If someone else I knew had achieved this I'd be jumping up and down for them. So why was I so reluctant to broadcast my success? I guess it's something about being British and not wanting to boast about my achievements.
But if I don't blow my own trumpet who will? So thank you Peronel for encouraging me to put my head above the parapet. What successes do the rest of you need to share?
Speaking of blowing trumpets I must also congratulate LTL member, Sarah Steel who recently won the first Yellow Pages 'Inspirational Business Mum of the Year Award' at the 2007 Prowess Awards gala dinner. This award recognises the commitment, energy, drive and determination of business mums, and the specific challenges they face in combining entrepreneurship with motherhood. Sarah beat over 125 entries to win the award and is a real inspiration to all of us.
