April 2009
Welcome to the April issue of the Ladies That Lunch newsletter!
First of all, thank you to all those who came to our meeting on 24th March, both existing and new members. Chantal Cornelius from Apple Tree gave a really useful and fascinating presentation on why we should all still be marketing our businesses during the current downturn - just the boost we all needed to keep us going during hard times.
Often, we think of marketing as being about NEW business. However, our existing clients are even more important (especially in these times). Therefore, it makes good business sense to look after and maintain our current clients. Chantal shared with us the importance of developing strong relationships with them. She gave us useful advice on how to keep in regular contact with our clients through the following methods:
- Networking - both physically through networking groups (iike Ladies that Lunch or others on the following link) that your clients attend and virtually through such groups as Linked In, Xing and Ecademy
- Cards - sending a Christmas, birthday, thank you card or forwarding an article you think is relevant to them
- Events - running workshops or training days for your clients (and prospects), having a birthday or Christmas party for your clients, taking clients with you to other events
- Phone Calls - pick up the phone to your clients to check in how they are doing (but first check they have the time to talk)
- Newsletters - a regular newsletter (or blog) is a good way to keep clients up to date with what you're up to and what they are likely to be interested in
So, communicate regularly with your clients and build a strong business with a future.

Thanks for The...er...the um...Memory?
This month's talk promises to be very interesting. In case you'd forgotten (!) it's called Thanks for The...er...the um...Memory? and is being run by Ken Norman and Tim Lyon of New Tricks Training.
When you stand up to give a presentation at a conference, seminar or even to a potential client at a meeting you'll want to be sure that your audience hasn't forgotten all about you within 24 hours. In this interactive and entertaining session, Ken and Tim will look at how the amazing memory works and what this means for you as a speaker.
You can book online or contact me direct on lesley@lesleyreader.co.uk.

Ladies that Lunch Re-launch Event

You know there are so many reasons why I prefer Ladies That Lunch to some of the other networking groups around!
- LTL is one of the few lunchtime networking groups to meet up in central/north Oxford, (just off the ring road) making it handy for a lot of businesses, and easy to reach via public transport.
- Even though it is in Oxford, I can get to it and, more importantly, park my car, very easily!
- I don't feel that I am trying to cram in some networking prior to my "working day!" Networking is useful to my business so I don't understand why it's seen as an extra curricular activity. Doing it over lunch gives me more time to make contacts. And anyway, I don't like getting up that early!
- Networking gives me an appetite! So it's nice to have a proper restaurant quality lunch rather than just a soggy croissant and over-boiled coffee at a meeting.
