Confident Presenting
Our big event in February was a great success. The Dress to Impress session in the morning prompted lots of questions about the right clothes to wear for the right occasion and what you wear says about you. In the afternoon our speaker Ron Aldridge shared with us how to give confident presentations using his theatre directing and acting experience. Here are some of his tips:
1. Plan what you’re going to say and practice it so that you feel confident about your material; 2. Stop focusing your attention on yourself as it’s more likely to make you feel self-conscious; 3. Practice breathing from your diaphragm rather than your chest. It’ll make your voice sound clearer and will be easier to project; 4. Concentrate all your tension into your buttocks by clenching them – no one else will see and it’ll stop you moving about unnecessarily (sounds funny but it does work); 5. Say to yourself that your introduction is a way of explaining who you are, rather than a talk or presentation. That way you take the pressure off yourself and can get clear on what you want to get across to people; 6. Stop worrying about what other people think as it’s something you can’t control; 7. If you’re excited and passionate about what you do, then let that come across. Put feeling into what you say.
If you're facing a particular challenge in your business life and would like some new ideas, then come along to March's Ladies that Lunch. Through a facilitated discussion, you’ll have the opportunity to brainstorm and get different perspectives to turn your challenges into opportunities for learning and business. I look forward to welcoming you along.

Women President's Organisation
launches in the UK
The Women Presidents' Organisation (WPO) launched a new chapter in London on 13th February introducing the first WPO presence in the United Kingdom. The WPO is the premier organisation for accomplished woman entrepreneurs grossing at least £1million in annual revenue (£500,000 for a service-based business).
Through the WPO, a diverse group of women CEO's and Managing Directors are able to tap into the collective wisdom of their peers and advance their business success.
Local WPO chapters are co-ordinated by a professional facilitator and meet monthly to share business expertise and experience in a confidential and collaborative setting.
The London chapter facilitator is Oxfordshire based Sue Stockdale, founder of Mission Possible.
In ten years, the WPO membership has grown to over 78 chapters and 1200 members strong in the United States, Canada and Peru.
The WPO's presence will support the growth of accomplished women presidents and encourage the rise of the female entrepreneurial rate which is currently at half that of the male equivalent. Small businesses that are majority female-owned account for between 12% and 16% of all UK business owners.
"I am delighted to help introduce WPO into the UK because I firmly believe in the value of women supporting their peers who enable them to take their businesses to the next level," said Sue Stockdale.
For further details about WPO see the WPO website or if you are interested in finding out more about the London Chapter contact Sue Stockdale 01367 244855 or by email. |
