Bringing it all Together
November is a busy month for me with four different events happening. The first of these took place last Thursday at Blenheim Palace for 'An Evening with Nicola Cairncross', top UK wealth coach. Seventy people from across the county and beyond came along to enjoy the delightful surroundings of Blenheim, the great food and hospitality, good networking opportunities and to hear Nicola share her secrets for making your first £1M (see www.TheMoneyGym.com).
We had a raffle with prizes such as flights on the London Eye being donated by Business Link and an Indian Cookery course for two people donated by Rasoi - the Indian Kitchen (thanks to everyone for your generosity) and we raised over £400 for the work of The Hunger Project, which as a trustee, I am delighted about. Participants gave great feedback, for the venue, the speaker and the organisation of the event itself. So thanks to everyone involved, particularly Michelle Stephens and the team at Blenheim (if you're looking for a great venue for an event or meeting then do consider Blenheim), Nicola, Janey Petterson, our photographer, and my co-host Sue Stockdale from Mission Possible. It was a real team effort and showed me what is possible when working in partnership with others.
What can you achieve when you bring a team together?
The other event I've got running this week is Chippy Lippys, when the speaker is Mervi Moyaert from Belflair Chocolates who'll be talking all about chocolate!
Things are hotting up for my Sizzling Singles Supper, taking place on Saturday 24th November from 7:30pm at The Big Bang on Walton Street. I had a great opportunity to promote this fundraising evening when I co-hosted with Bill Heine on BBC Radio Oxford earlier this week. Also, everyone's been extraordinarily generous with items for the charity auction (such as 2 box seats for Oxford United from Dave Beesley of B-Line Business Supplies; a meal for 4 at The Fishes from Lee Cash of Peach Pubs and jewellery specially made for the evening by LTL member Louise Rosborough - details of all items are on the website). I even have a professional auctioneer from Bonhams running the auction. Thanks to everyone who's played a part in bringing this event together - another great example of teamwork.
So if you're single and in your 30s to 50s, want to meet like minded people, have a fun evening and raise money for charity then book here.
My final event this month is the next Ladies that Lunch which is on Tuesday 27th November when our speaker is Elizabeth Kuhnke of Kuhnke Communication. Elizabeth has just published ‘Body Language for Dummies’, part of the successful ‘For Dummies’ series. Elizabeth will be talking about Body Language for Business.
I'm off to the sun for a week now but I look forward to welcoming you to an event soon.

FINALE FOR OXFORDSHIRE'S MILLENNIUM EVENTS
Oxfordshire's millennium celebrations close with a flourish at the end of the year. Winter Light - a series of colourful finale events - brings the curtain down on a special year which has highlighted the county's rich creative life with new festivals and collaborations. Winter Light continues the theme of light, fire and spectacle which has run throughout Oxfordshire 2007. Son et lumiere, fire pictures and giant illuminated cones create a magical atmosphere to light up the festive season.
Centrepiece of the celebrations is Symphonie Conique, a magical forest of spires - some of them up to 40 feet high – which change colour and also respond to people around them with different sounds. A soundtrack unique to Oxfordshire has been created, which includes bells, horses’ hooves and even the Friday night chip shop!
In Oxford on Friday 7th December from 6pm, Symphonie Conique (on Broad Street) is part of White Night, when the city's galleries, theatres, museums and open spaces host a special late-night evening of art, music, dance and performance. White Night is a popular event in many cities across Europe and the county's millennium closing event creates a similar festive idea for Oxfordshire and a link with its European neighbours.
White Night includes a chance to meet the Tudors at the Museum of Oxford; a ghost fest and ice sculptures at Oxford Castle; Nightfair before Christmas, a live art fair and entertainment in Gloucester Green produced by OVADA gallery; the Pitt Rivers and Natural History Museum by torchlight plus community choirs and musicians. Blackwell's bookshop will stay open late and there will be street performance along the culture trail. The Oxford Bus Company is also offering free travel for children under 15 years accompanied by an adult.
There are also major events in Abingdon, Chipping Norton and Henley. Visit www.oxfordshire2007.com for further details. |

Flying without wings - unleash your angel potential!
Invitation to launch event of
'Women investing in Women'
Coutts & Co, London
Wednesday 28th November
Have you ever watched “Dragon’s Den” and thought “That looks interesting. I wonder if I could become a business angel and invest in small exciting businesses.” Well, now is your chance! Finance South East is launching a scheme called “Women investing in Women” to encourage more women to investigate the risks and rewards of becoming a business angel. The scheme will include awareness events and training sessions aimed at potential female investors to help them become successful business shareholders.
The launch event for this exciting programme will be held at the offices of Coutts Bank in the Strand, London from 12-3pm. By attending the event, you will be able to learn more about the business angel market, hear from experienced female business angels who have already taken the plunge and network with other like minded female business people. The aim is to build a member-led female investor club in London and the South East which will take a fresh look at investment opportunities, particularly those with an appeal for the female market. For further information and to book your place, contact Jean Khan on 01276 608519 or jean.khan@financesoutheast.com.
