Networking
At the last meeting of Chippy Lippys, the other networking group I run, we departed from the usual format. Instead of a speaker we had an interesting discussion about networking. We looked at what networking is and is not and offered tips to each other on what's worked for us.
We decided that networking is:
and promoting your business.
For some a rigid structure and format was a real turn off (as were early mornings), whilst for others it worked really well. We debated the issue of exclusivity (only allowing one person from each profession to meetings) and most preferred groups that weren't too restrictive.
A lot of the tips about networking concerned follow-up. Meeting up over a coffee has proved very effective for quite a number of people and has led to great advice, support and friendships, as well as business.
We agreed that with networking it is important to commit to it, as making good connections and developing relationships takes time. If you keep going with your networking, your hard work will pay off.
If you are new to networking or unconvinced about the benefits, then come along to a Ladies that Lunch event and see for yourself.
Our next meeting is Tuesday 28th November when Sarah Maxfield, the Chief Executive of Oxford Inspires is our speaker.
In December, we have a more informal meeting on Tuesday 12th December with festive fun and this meeting is open to everyone, members and guests alike.
Also, look out for details of the Laughter School - an event to start off 2007 on a very positive note.
